A Porous Country

::::::A POROUS COUNTRY::::::
By: Bamiteko Anthony Dare

We have three categories of country in this world. Developed countries, developing countries and underdeveloped countries. Nigeria falls under developing countries.

Viewing the Nations that fall under developed countries, I mean Nations like Great Britain, United State of America and the rest, one will understand the fact that, technology, exposure, law and order, great institutions, structures, economy, planing, vision etcetera made such countries to be categorised as developed Nations.

Developing countries as well, are countries growing and moving towards perfection, not retrogressive in nature. They also have all the aforementioned attributes of developed countries, but trying to perfect it with gestures from all government institutions everyday.

Underdeveloped countries are backward countries, they lack orderliness. Law and order are not maintained the way it ought to, there are always sacred cows. In such Nations, there is always backwardness, favouritism, rampant corruption, bribery at its peak, incessant killings, breakdown of law by government and her officials, including the people and foreigners, and all other loopholes coming from different angles.

A porous country is a country that allows loopholes from all angles. Such country consciously and unconsciously permits her institutions to be weak and people tend to break laws and protocols. These bring about incessant killings and all other vices. No doubt, a porous country is an underdeveloped country.

There are some countries under this heaven that are not supposed to be categorised as a developing country, because what one sees in such country are things found in underdeveloped countries. There is a need for the United Nations and all other world agencies to be periodically evaluating countries, and any country that needs elevation to the level of developed country should be recommended and made known to the world, while countries that need to be demoted back to the level of underdeveloped countries should be made known as well. By so doing, there will be competition that will bring about great institutions and countries of our dreams.

Many Nations are not growing, in fact, many are downgrading everyday because they are not checkmated by the right organs. In the real sense, when studied and analyzed critically, one tend to discover that the colonial masters shaped many developing and underdeveloped countries to be diminishing and porous for their own selfish interest. It seems they don't want something good to come from their colonies. I guess they don't want their one time subjects to be absolutely independent. And when the people living in this same geographical entity are not wise, they will forever live in shambles.

Some creatures have been programmed to remain static, its not their fault but their blueprint is the problem. When some measures are taking to correct lopsided aspects of the Nation that bring about her backwardness, the wrongly programmed citizens see it as a threat to their existence, not knowing they will be the great beneficiary. And when one's blueprint is faulty, it takes heaven to correct such mentality at the adult stage, most especially when such calibre of people are at the forefront of taking decisions that have to do with the existence of the Nation.

There are a lot to be done in a country that is deteriorating in nature. New breed of Politicians must emerged, and strong institutions that will bring about functioning system of government, where good laws will be made and passed as at when due. It is imperative to know that no perfect Nation, but its rare to always have a Nation that laws and order are broken everyday that brings about incessant killings and a porous Nation in all ramifications.

Nigeria is a porous Nation. Our borders, Politicians, Leaders, institutions, system and we the people are also porous. There is no way our country will not be in a total mess. The panacea is me and you. 2019 should mark a begining of new dawn in our history. Ethnicity, religion, fanaticism and the rest can't take us anywhere. The colonial masters that brought religion into our midst way of life should be used as an example because they are not over religious like us. We need to trend with caution. We need new breed of leaders. Get your permanent voter card (PVC) and always do the needful irrespective of whose ox is gored.

I am an eye opener.
