Fashola Finally Bow to NASS

Babatunde Fashola Speaking to NASS Committee
Recall that there was a disagreement between the three-in-one minister, Honorable Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola and the National Assembly over the amendment of 2017 budget that allegedly affects his ministries.

The disagreement transformed to confrontations, accusations and counter accusations between the two arms of government that led to unwarranted arguments and jibes on social media that also warranted the Senate to release a 3page statement.

However, peace and agreement was restored Friday 28 July, 2017 when the minister appeared before the national assembly joint technical committee on budget reconciliation at the NASS committee room.

The minister said he was only trying to stand for his ministries where necessary by getting back his budget in order to deliver what will benefit Nigerians as expected and that he does not intent to rubbish the NASS or incite them against the public.

Fashola apologised, he said "If you were angry with my comments, I am sorry and I apologise 100%. I am only interested in getting my budget back. Once more I am sorry.

"I have no intention to rubbish the NASS, The public heard my comments and they have not attacked you, so I have no intention of incitement." he added.

His apology was accepted by the committee and they commended him as a devoted minister and an absolute gentleman.

"We have accepted your apologies and your budget as from today is restored. You are a complete gentleman." NASS Joint Technical Committee on Budget Reconciliation replied.

Now that the conflict has been resolved, Nigerians are eagerly waiting as usual for the busy minister in solving the nation's power failure problem, build adequate and affordable houses and fix the country's roads in which Apapa Lagos is a priority.

Chai! See Shocking Secret About Reekado Banks

The MavinsRecord youngstar, Reekado Banks just reveal a fact about his personal life.

The ladies and gentlemen crooner is no doubt one of the best hip hop artist in Nigeria who has been consistent since he badged into the industry.

Like the popular Nigeria saying "One thing must kill a man", Reekado said he can die for breast. He got some of my Northern brothers back on this, with their rhetorical saying that if they are not killed by sweet things, should they die of bitterness?

Reekado Banks prefer to die of sweet packages, he is human afterall.

"One thing go kill man. Na breast get me" Reekado Banks said in pidgin.

He made this comment via his twitter handle @ReekadoBanks
Nice one Reekado, we are on the sane page.

LIFESTYLE: The Ilaje People and Their Flamboyant Funeral

The Ilaje people are one of the many dialects of the Yoruba race in Nigeria. The people speak Ilaje dialect of Yoruba and occupy Ilaje and Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State.  They can also be found in Ajegunle and Majidun Lagos and in other riverine area across the country including Makoko. This is because their main occupation is fishing.

The Ilajes hold burial ceremony in high esteem that it seems to be more important than marriage, naming ceremony, or any other good in life. Generally, Yoruba doesn’t celebrate the death of youth, children, or any young person especially one that was survived by parents because they believe that it is a very sad situation. Therefore, the Ilajes only perform burial rite for an aged man or woman survived by at least a grown child.

This rite begins from the day the deceased gave up the ghost till the day he or she is buried. It consist of cleaning the dead and reserving it in the mortuary, Ere Iseyinde (farewell play), having series of family meetings, and the last stage which include church service, a mega party and finally, burial. Our focus here is actually on the Ere Iseyinde.

The importance of Ere Iseyinde is that it is the farewell play used in informing the public of the unexpected news and as a performance to celebrate the decease to the underworld. It consists of singing, drumming and dancing to traditional songs joyously by the participants. The songs are traditional and anyone among the congregation can lead at any point that suit him and the rest of the sympathizers.

TIME: Ere Iseyinde is usually performed in the evening till anytime in the night and possibly till dawn for seven consecutive days from the day of demise.

PARTICIPANTS: Family members, friends, neighbors, and wishers; both men and women. Children are involved as spectators.

INSTRUMENTS: The main traditional instrument is a pair of foot-length bamboo stick for each person. These bamboos are hit against themselves melodiously to the tune of songs. It is typically accompanied with supporting instruments that include Traditional Drum, Sekere (Shaker) and Hands to clap; together creating a percussive sound that gladdens and delights the listeners.

In conclusion, winning and dinning is significant. Traditional foods like Pupuru and Orugbo Soup’ will take centre stage and dominates the period. Also, various drinks headed by palm wine are available. Non-alcoholic drinks are also served but their intake cannot be compare to the amount of Ogogoro, gin and beers’. Trust the Ilajes, they take much alcohol but often not to stupor because it has become part of them.

McGregor Promises to Knock Mayweather Out in the Fourth Round

At the Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor International Press Tour day 2 in Los Angeles, Wednesday, McGregor who again owns the day and the fans promised to knock down Mayweather in the fourth round. He said "I will knock him out in the fourth round, mark my word" while the fans cheers.

He said this ahead of their August 26 boxing match that has been making airwaves for sometimes. The match is between an Irish kick boxing champion without a boxing experience, Conor McGregor (21-3, 18 KOs in MMA) and the 40years old American, Floyd Mayweather (49, 19 KOs).

The face off is expletive as they trade insults and use 'f' words on each other.

McGregor mocks Mayweather's dress style that he dresses like a 12year old boy and Mayweather replied that it is only those that are not rich that put on suit often. So hilarious right?

It almost gets out of hand when Mayweather snatches an Irish flag from a fan and draped it. Then his Irish opponent seized his 'money bag' in protest. He also said the American can not even read.

What a great night of debate, what a great fight to expect.

A Permanent Solution to Lekki, V.I, Ajah's Flooding

By: Ayannuga Olugbenga Paul
                   Oluayan1
Isolated Development is Zero Development

They are having problem in lekki/Ajah because the entire peninsula was developed in isolation by individual rich man and woman

Nigerians believe that technology is a product they can just throw money at and buy.  It is not, it's a culture they must live

Here is the story of average Nigerians.
In the fifties, when my Dad moved to Lagos in search of greener pastures. The destination them was Agege, cheap housing and community lifestyle. Thatch roof building are common in the area.

After some years and during independence era, those that made few money felt Agege no longer fit their social status. Too many hold up, rowdy scene..etc Instead of them to communally solve the social problems,  they moved to Surulere (New Lagos).

That's where the cream de la cream congregate. Even the middle class of Ido, Yaba and Ebute Meta came to New Lagos as a status upgrade.

The traffic and rowdy scene they left behind came to western avenue and Surulere in general to meet them.
The rich people of that time felt they have to move somewhere else.

They sandfilled Oso-Osa (VI). They money, VI was 100% residential, military generals became omo onile. Disgruntled rich people left mainland and came to VI

Few years later, some of them died, those with two wives had their nice compound separated by fence.. semi detach start surfacing. Some sold their for commercial activities.  The quiet residential estate became boom town and all the problems they left behind at Surulere came to their door step. They decided to move again, they left VI for Lekki

Admiralty way only had building on one side, the other was water view. Soon the problem they left behind came there. The other side was built. Commercial activities came to residential area.  Not it take one hour to drive 4 miles during rush hour.

The entire Lekki became a mess, they want to move again. The next destination is Eko Atlantic city. The problems they are leaving behind is already waiting for them there, end of story.

Instead of them to stay behind, develop engineering and social solutions to their problems,  they are running away from it. Problems are like shadow,  you can't run away from it. You solve it by having lights

Average Nigerians think society problem is not their problem as long as they can have money to fix themselves alone. They forget that theirs is just a reflection of the problem.

You don't fix shadow by providing light to One side, it will just change direction. You fix shadow by providing light to everywhere,  therefore no darkness for shadow to thrive

Until We start thinking about solving society problems,  solving individual problems will be an effort in futility

The so called rich among us, those that steal our commonwealth can't even enjoy it. It look like an enjoyment only in the face of the poor.

The insecurity is affecting them,  lack of electricity is affecting them. They can't even open their gate or live in a house without prison wall. They can't travel anyhow. They are scared of hanging out with their people. They are scared of people coming to beg for help. They are scared of witches and wizards.
They are scared of every problems they created.

They can't get to church or mosque early because they want to avoid conversation.  They run out of church before the end of service to avoid conversation.  How do they enjoy life by running away from people around them?

Olowo kan laarin otoshi mefa, otoshi loun naa. This Yoruba saying means that "A wealthy person among many poverty stricken people is also in poverty".

The way out is simple. We need to start thinking communal when seeking solutions. We need to get rid of our selfish skin.

We need to bring government back to our locality. Let every village, town, city, borough, parish, county or whatever division we want to use govern themselves.

Let them develop their own building code, town planing structure and govern themselves the way they like.

That is when development will become a way of life.

People will have sense of ownership

Therefore they will jealously protect their critical infrastructure

That is why we need restructuring

That is why we need true federalism

That is why we need to get involved

That is why we the youths need to stand our ground.

That is why we must come together as youths and fight the establishment together.

FG Plans to Jail Nigeria Celebrities that Fail to Pay Tax

The federal government has fine-tuned plans to punish and possibly jail entertainers who evade taxes after the nine-month grace period set out by the recently launched voluntary asset and income declaration scheme (VAIDS).

TheCable learnt that for 15 months, the federal government via various agencies and departments, to include the private sector, has been gathering information on tax compliance of many celebrities and high net worth individuals in the country.
“Highly qualified” agents of the federal ministry of finance have worked with the banks, Nigeria Financial Intelligent Unit (NFIU), bureau de change (BDCs), Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), to monitor the degree of tax compliance of many celebrities and high net worth individuals.
The government has also reviewed land ownership, ownership of exotic cars, yatchs, private jets and other luxurious properties to understand the earnings and assets of many of these persons, relative to their taxes.
Following massive revelations, the government launched VAIDS, a scheme that allows these celebrities and other Nigerians to declare their assets and income, and pay necessary taxes without interest, penalty or investigation.
TheCable understands that the scheme, which will run for nine months, is a grace period for the celebrities to make amends or face the full wrath of the law, which could include up to five years jail term.
.
For celebrities with houses in exotic locations worth millions of naira, and a tax record not consistent with the value of the property, the government advises that such celebrities “complete form VA1” and clarify sources of income for the house and pay necessary taxes within July 1, 2017 and March 31, 2018.
Celebrities who do not take advantage of the scheme risk “up to five-year imprisonment, get severe extra penalties: up to 100% of the outstanding tax due, a compound interest at 21% per annum, and forfeiture of such assets”.
