Easter: Jesus Did Not Die To Save The World- Prof. Abioje

Professor of Christian theology in University of  Ilorin, Pius Oyeniran Abioje,  has  dismissed the agelong Biblical claim that Jesus Christ died to save the world.

Speaking while delivering the 167th Inaugural Lecture  of the university, Thursday 13th April, 2017, entitled, ‘Christian Prophets and Other Prophets in Nigeria’, the professor said Jesus Christ was killed by haters of truth.

Abioje, who noted that critical prophets should anticipate opposition and conspiracy from unexpected quarters, said: “The conspiracy that killed Jesus Christ came from the millieu of the chief priest and the political elite. “Regrettably, the interpretations by many Christians is that God wanted Jesus to die so as to save the world. Yet the world continues to persecute innocent critical prophets.

“Why cannot Christians emphasise that Jesus was killed by haters of truth, the religio-political powers that be,particularly since the world is still seeking redemption? “Nigerians should learn to see critical prophets as friends of the society, and pardon them whenever they happen to err, since no human being is infallible.”

The professor asked the people  in positions of authority to learn to see critical prophets  as partners in progress towards human edification, not as adversaries. The university don also admonished: “Divinatory/esoteric prophets should avoid fraudulence.” They should see their divinatory knowledge as divine endowment to be used altruistically  and not for exploitation. “People who consult esoteric prophets should be discerning and not gullible. “ They should avoid frequent recourse to divinatory prophecy to avoid mediumistic psychosis”

Abioje also urged Nigerians to strive to become critical prophets to speak against evil on behalf of God and try to live holy lives. He however advised: “Academic programmes generally should include introduction to critical prophecy, which makes a person to be committed to advocacy in godly words and actions, even as medical doctors, engineers, architects, lawyers and so on and not only as clergy men and women.

Virtues for which critical prophets strive is unarguably the key to individual and social progress, even when truth can be very bitter.”

In addition to this, I do ask myself that if Jesus died for our sins, then does it means that the sin man commits today won't be in record?

Fracas in Unilorin as Bus Hit Student. "Begin ALUTA", Another Student Screamed

STATE OF UNILORIN STUDENT HIT BY A BUS

A 200 level student of the University of Ilorin, was hit by a moving bus, yesterday.

Isiaq Mohammed Bashir, who is a student of Civil Engineering and Direct Entry student of the institution, claimed he got hit by the bus in an attempt to transport himself home last night.

In his words, "I don't know how I got here, the last thing I could remember was that students were rushing for bus at Faculty of Education, while the driver drove with full speed and hit me."

An eyewitness said the victim became unconscious immediately after the hit and was rushed to the school clinic for urgent medical attention.

UCJ Unilorin can confirm that the operation lasted for minutes and was successful.

He was admitted due to the severe injuries he suffered from the accident, as he claimed he was feeling pains all over his body.

As at 11pm yesterday, UCJ Unilorin can confirm that he is conscious and close to full recovery as he told our correspondent of his condition.

The Students' Union Health Committee was also present to give the victim their support, reported
Tomori Uriel for UCJ, Unilorin.

Earlier, the Students' Union Senate, Health Care Committee led by Senator Oguntade David Segun a.k.a Sen. Socrates, confirm the incident and released a statement on the development, thus:

"This evening, at the park, while on duty at the park, monitoring the queue, attending to health issues, and collating reports on the developments that arose from the imbroglio at the park today, we immediately moved on to the school clinic where some students were hitherto rushed down from the park.

We met with, and attended to two of them; one just got stitched on his left face some minutes earlier after he was hit by a bus, while the other was being attended to by the nurses on duty.

We can confirm that these students have been properly admitted and attended to by the Doctors, and their details have been taken.

The nurses gave word that the other two students have been attended to before our arrival.

We must relate that the state of things at the clinic is currently under control...

We have to appreciate the lots of our students who volunteered themselves to bring these students down here, and all those who partook in subjecting the situations at the park to control."

However, a lady also admitted at the school's clinic, simply known as Feranmi through her Whatsapp account could not control her emotion and thereby lamented at the state of affairs and how students are being maltreated in the better by far university.

She said "The students are in agony yet the security personnel were apprehending some innocent ones. UCJ, shut the crap and fight for innocent students at the security division"

"I wonder when ALUTA will begin in Unilorin". She added.

The school authority is yet to make any statement as at press time.

Unilorin Suspends Two Lecturers

Two lecturers have been suspended by the authority of the University of Ilorin for insubordination

The lecturers in question are two factional ASUU leaders of the institution. They are the chairman, Dr Kayode Niyi Afolayan, and Dr Bode Olumorin who is the secretary.

The VC, Prof. Abdulganiyu Ambali in an interview with journalist in Ilorin, said that the two lecturers were suspended for gross insubordination. "They are undergoing two queries before" he added.

On the other hand, the affected staffs also spoke to newsmen yesterday in Ilorin. Dr Kayode Niyi Afolayan alleged the institution of impunity and nepotism. "We raise the issue of impunity and nepotism in the system. The wife of the VC, Mrs Toyin Ambali was appointed and promoted in a year among others". He said.

Likewise, Dr Bode Olumorin said they are only whistle blowers. "What we are doing is blowing whistle which is in line with the agenda of the federal government. So, we believe the presidency will come into the matter".

We have to recollect that the authority did not recognize this duo as authentic ASUU executives but they have ASUU at the national level's backing. ASUU recently suspended Unilorin for alleged corruption and other matters.

Unilorin Rejects 711 Prospective Students.

VICE Chancellor, University of Ilorin, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali, weekend explained why the university refused admission to 711 candidates after collecting their money, saying they uploaded excellent results, which the authority later discovered to be fake during screening.
According to Vanguard news, It was reported that management of the university had offered admission to no fewer than 2,000 candidates and afterwards withdrew the admission from the candidates. Speaking with reporters, Professor Ambali said: “The issue of people trying to say we collected their money and refused to offer them admission is uncalled for. They wasted our time. In any civilized society those people should be prosecuted. That is examinations malpractice. If the said candidates are using fraudulent means to come in, you can imagine what they will do when they become our students fully. But we thought they were young people, we say they should learn by losing the opportunity. They can reapply. We thought they had to be taught a lesson and that was why we kept quiet".
“They are just trying to portray the university negatively. You know the university has come a long way. For the last few years we have been the most patronized university with over 100,000 applicants wanting to come and join us in the better by fVICE Chancellor of University of Ilorin, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali, weekend explained why the university refused admission to 711 candidates after collecting their money, saying they uploaded excellent results, which the authorities later discovered during screening to be fake.
