PHOTO NEWS: ADIDAS Field, Now A Threat To The Community

Pitch Littered With Rubbish

Adidas Field Turns Dirty Hub
Adidas is an ancient field located adjacent Tolu Schools’ Complex at Olodi-Apapa, Ajegunle Lagos. This field is blessed with white sand that is good for playing. It constitutes about ten different portions of various sizes. There are initially three monkey-pose fields, which are now cut to two in which one is being threatened. There are also two standard pitches, one at the entrance and the other in front of Oluwa/Ojoku Secondary Schools.

Adidas with Ajegunle has produced unnumbered stars that are all over the world.  Notably among them is Super Eagles and Chinese based duo of Odion Ighalo and Brown Ideye. Others are Dare Ojo, Harrison Ibukun, Micheal Ochie, Godwin Aguda, Omoboy Ebesua, Olatuga Ojembe, to mention a few. They are mainly based abroad but with handful of them in the Nigeria Professional Football League. So, whenever a player is said to have emanated from ‘AJ’ as it is fondly called, Adidas field should firstly come to your mind. Other fields in Ajegunle are Maracana and Navy fields.

However, the current horror face of the said ground is alarming, disgraceful, and disappointing. Adidas is gradually becoming a rubbish hub cum a residential site. Some group of ‘Area Boys’ are now confidently and with great temerity selling government’s property to individuals to build residential homes and churches. A resource that belongs to the whole society has been hijacked by some few individuals to make personal gains. They also collect money from Maisharas (dirty disposers using cart) to dump their rubbish on the football field.

I hereby call on the government of Lagos State, headed by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to look into this matter. It is obviously a means to deny potentials the right to exhibit and build on their talents and to discourage sport men and women as the place is now irritating, stinks and disgusting. We are very aware of the economic, social and security importance of sport. Ajegunle community would be very grateful if you can transform Adidas Field to a standard stadium like we have in Agege.
