...An Open Letter to Darius Dickson Ishaku, The Executive Governor of Taraba State. - Faisal Abubakar Chindo

Dear Darius,

According to your mantra "Give me peace, I will give you development". For the time being there was relative peace in the state, we waited all that long for the so-called development but non to count. Please, if you can't afford the development I beseech you to have the mentality of keeping the relative peace we have. As a Tarabian, it pains me to the marrow to witness your administration claiming the projects executed by the late Government of Danbaba Suntai and co. I challenge you and the entire ‘Rescue Team’ to point out a single project carried out by your government. All you can best present are myriad billboards that were brought to stand with erroneous adverts of your fake and presupposed achievements for the ignorant, unpatriotic Tarabians to celebrate.

As an architect, your governance is a disgrace to the society of architectures and a slap to your title. I thought the idea of your ‘Rescue Team’ is to give a new look to the state having an architect behind the steering but it's not. I think the anti-corruption crusade of President Muhammadu Buhari is yet to reach us here in Taraba State because I can guarantee the whole nation that Taraba State is a haven for corruption where people are getting richer day by day and the state owes at least 7months salary yet to be paid.

Nawa ooh! It's under the watch of same government that some people will cause trouble and go scot-free. I want to know, are these love, hatred or the development you promised? Now I remember; what about the bailout from the government of the federation, did you use them for feeding the IDPs in their various camps because the last time I checked we don't have more than one in the state. My question is when are we going to stop playing a role in a movie that has no Director? It is not a drama it's reality so wake up, stop acting like a care-taker or an acting governor. There are so many things we lack as a state; we need something tangible more than expanding our drainages, we need good roads, reliable health care, clean water, agricultural improvement and so many more.

The same peaceful Tarabians we have in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s are the same Tarabians we have in this age of 21st Century, then what makes you think we are not peaceful? Peaceful or not peaceful, I bet you we lack good governance. Some people in the government of the day push and pull anybody and anything, anytime and anywhere.

Anyway, humans are forgetful creature, in case you forget, I will remind you that as a citizen my office is the number one office, you are just a bunch of servants working under my chief servant. Remember as well that it is the revenue of my state and my tax that pay for your salary and fuel your car and from same you make your loot. So, please concentrate on your looting and stop causing trouble. I doubt if any of you understand what I mean by 4+4=8, your slogan, Sir, what makes you think we can survive the hardship in the first four. I know that the entire country is in recession but it does not stop other states from doing well. Therefore, that your mantra of 4+4 cannot be trusted and I can't risk it, It’s left to me to vote in or vote out a government but am only crying out loud for good governance come 2019 because to before warn is to before harm. I will play my role in the movie too, my PVC is intact.

I was 22 last month, at this age I think am old enough to punish bad governance. To my fellow Tarabians who love the Darius led government and support it wholeheartedly, I am sure you have enough money in your bank accounts, you have enormous foods in your stores that will last you till 2019 or 2023, your children are enjoying the free education in the state and the safety of your life and properties is guaranteed.

However, I never mean to disparage your ‘achievements’ as a government but to hint you that you are far below par. This is beyond religious, ethnic or political differences; it is about good governance, which I yearn for.

I don't care about the consequence of this long overdue letter of mine, all I know is that I am speaking my mind and the truth and I just want to make COMMON SENSE...

Lecturer Do Chores For a Female Student

A lecturer in the English Department, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida University, Lapai, Niger State, Isiaq Yusuf, popularly called I.G. Yusuf, has become an object of ridicule after he was caught naked in his student’s apartment.

The fiancé of the 400-level student and his friend, who caught Yusuf while he was allegedly prepared to have sex with her, made him to mop the living room, wash the toilet, and took his nude pictures, which had gone viral.

The lecturer had reportedly insisted on sleeping with the student so she could pass ENG 201 titled, “History of English Language in Nigeria”.

She was said to have told her fiancé about the problem she was having with the lecturer and a plan was made to end the lecturer’s harassment as the lady could no longer bear it.

“ENG 201 is taken in the first semester and exams will soon commence. Last Wednesday, the fiancé and his friend went to Mercy’s residence outside the campus. The lecturer was bent on having sex with her before she could pass the course.

“They told her to invite Mr. Yusuf to come and do what he was demanding while they hid in the toilet. As the lecturer removed his clothes to sleep with her, they came out of the toilet. They gave him a mop to clean the toilet and the living room,” one of the students, who did not want his name in print, told our correspondent.

Another student said the lecturer had been accused of sexually harassing female students.

“But there was no evidence to nail him until now. The department is aware of the incident and it has been taken up by the school management. According to information, he will face a panel on Monday (today) or Tuesday,” he added

“He is about 50-year-old and currently studying for his PhD. I had advised him to stop chasing female students and start his own family. This is a big shame and a lifetime embarrassment,” an alumnus lamented.

The Chairman of the university’s Servicom Unit, which sees to complaints lodged to the school, Dr Ebenezer Ogungbe, said he learnt about the incident on the social media, adding that appropriate disciplinary actions would be taken.

He said, “There are laid down rules when things like this happen. So, the rules will be followed. A committee will be put in place to investigate the matter so that justice is done.”

The management, on the institution’s website, confirmed that a committee had been set up to investigate the case and promised to do justice to the case.

The statement read, “The university management is aware of the recent unfortunate incident between a male lecturer and a female student. In view of this, the management has set up a committee to investigate the immediate and remote cause(s) of the incident. The committee is headed by the deputy vice-chancellor and involves all stakeholders in the matter.

“Accordingly, all parties involved are hereby advised to exercise restraint. The university community and the general public are assured of the management’s resolve to take appropriate disciplinary action against any party found guilty.”

However, the lecturer denied the allegation that he attempted to have sex with the student. He stated that she connived with some men to kidnap him on his way home around 10pm on Tuesday, adding that he was forced to remove his clothes.

He said, “There was a test conducted by a fellow lecturer on Tuesday for 400-level students. I don’t take any course at that level. They had to be split into two and the lecturer invited me to assist him to administer the test. Towards the end of the test, I noticed there was a boy sitting in front of the girl. He raised his paper up for the girl to copy.

“I saw them and warned the boy. He just smiled instead of him to obey my warning and continued. I asked to forward his paper if he had finished and he reluctantly forwarded it to me. The rule of test is that if you are found cheating, we will tear your paper. I wrote on his paper ‘found cheating’. I tore the paper and threw it into a dustbin.

“Later in the evening, I began to receive calls from this girl, asking me to see her. She said the boy whose paper I tore had not let her have peace and that he wanted to see me so that the lecturer could consider him for a make-up (test). I told her she should let us meet the next day.

“On my way home, as I reached a junction leading to her house, I saw her standing by the roadside with some men. As soon as she entered my car, the men also entered from behind and pressed a metal on my back. So, I drove until they got to the house.

“As soon as I got into the room, they removed my clothes and poured water on me. They demanded N2m ransom from me. I have been traumatised. Presently, I have been suspended and will appear before a panel on Monday (today).”

Yusuf explained further that she had never taught the student ENG 201, saying that she “actually failed two courses he taught her in 300-level.”

“She passed four courses I had taught her in 100 and 200 levels,” he added.

Oliver: DRUGS and How They are Destroying Young Lifes on The Isle of White

DRUGS and how they're destroying young lifes on the Isle of Wight – Oliver’s Life Story

My name is Oliver and I'm 19. I live on the Isle of Wight. For the past 5 years, I have been fighting my drug (cocaine) addiction and I'm here to tell you my story.

It all started when I was just 14 and my house was burned down in a fire caused by a faulty gas line, I my mother and sister had to move into a flat which put stress on all of us and as strong as I thought I was the stress was too much for me and I turned to drinking strong spirits with my friend Calum as he was under a lot of pressure from his private school.

I and Calum continued drinking for a few months, then someone offered us a line of cocaine which we took as we were drunk and we're up for anything to have a good night, after that first line we were hooked and couldn't stop as the addiction grew stronger over the years. I and Calum saw ourselves fall into a spiral of depression and drug addiction and it ruined our relationship with our friends and family.

We live on a Island of hate and racism. We can’t escape it because we have no money to go anywhere, so we have to stay. This Island is full of drug addict and violent people. Some of us couldn't afford a spacebar because of horrible drug addiction. I cry every night before going to bed because of these.

Please put my story out there for the people of your county and the world to see, especially the teenagers and youths for them to learn from my story.

Oliver – Isle of Wight, UK.

Media Groups Condemn White House Briefing Bar.

Trump: "fake news" was the "enemy of the people".

Media groups have reacted angrily after several, including the BBC, were barred from an informal briefing with White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer.

The excluded New York Times said the move was "an unmistakable insult to democratic ideals".

The bar came hours after President Donald Trump delivered another attack on the media, saying that "fake news" was the "enemy of the people".

The BBC has asked the White House to clarify its exclusion.

BBC bureau chief in Washington, Paul Danahar, said: "We understand that there may be occasions when, due to space or circumstances, the White House restricts press events to the established pool. However, what happened today did not fit into that pattern." He added: "Our reporting will remain fair and impartial, regardless."

Friday's briefing had been scheduled as an on-camera event in the briefing room but was changed to an informal off-camera event, known as a "gaggle", in Mr Spicer's office.

Explaining the move to go off-camera, he said: "We don't generally do, we haven't done briefings when the president's had a major event."
Mr Spicer said an "expanded" pool of journalists had been invited to the gaggle. Pools are not uncommon - the journalists attending then share their reporting with the White House press corps.

However, the choice of those attending, including groups seen as friendly to the Trump administration, and the fact that other journalists who asked to attend were refused entry drew condemnation from media groups.

White House Correspondents' Association President Jeff Mason said it was "protesting strongly".

The BBC, CNN, the New York Times, the Guardian, the Los Angeles Times, Buzzfeed, the Daily Mail and Politico were among those excluded.

Those allowed into the room included ABC, Fox News, Breitbart News, Reuters and the Washington Times.

The Associated Press, USA Today and Time magazine refused to attend as a protest against the move.

Both the Washington Post and McClatchy said they were unaware of the exclusions at the time and that had they known, their reporters would not have attended the gaggle.

Both said they would not participate in future briefings if the exclusions continued.
When asked at the gaggle, Mr Spicer denied CNN and the New York Times had been denied access because the White House was unhappy with their coverage.

But he said: "We are just not going to sit back and let false narratives, false stories, inaccurate facts get out there."

CNN anchor Jake Tapper said the exclusion was "not acceptable, in fact it's petulant. And indicative of a lack of basic understanding of how an adult White House functions".

Leicester Part Ways With Ranieri

Leicester City part company with its first team coach Claudio Ranieri as released in the club statement on Thursday.

Ranieri has served as first team manager since July 2015 and won the Premier League in his first season and attempt as manager of the club. He also had very good start in the first Leicester City's appearance in the Champions League qualifying as a topper from the group stage.

However, this season as been very poor for him as he lost six Premier Laegue game in a row. Ranieri was sacked after a 2-1 lost to Sevilla in the quarter final first league in Europe.

The club's Vice Chairman pays tribute, but explains the need to serve the Club's long-term interest. Vice Chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha said: “This has been the most difficult decision we have had to make in nearly seven years since King Power took ownership of Leicester City. But we are duty-bound to put the Club’s long-term interests above all sense of personal sentiment, no matter how strong that might be.

“Claudio has brought outstanding qualities to his office. His skilful management, powers of motivation and measured approach have been reflective of the rich experience we always knew he would bring to Leicester City. His warmth, charm and charisma have helped transform perceptions of the Club and develop its profile on a global scale. We will forever be grateful to him for what he has helped us to achieve.

“It was never our expectation that the extraordinary feats of last season should be replicated this season. Indeed, survival in the Premier League was our first and only target at the start of the campaign. But we are now faced with a fight to reach that objective and feel a change is necessary to maximise the opportunity presented by the final 13 games.” He added.

Mancini and Hiddink are possible replacement for him but the club has asked Craig Shakeapeare and Mike Stowell to assume interim first team responsibilities immediately until a new coach is appointed.

Leicester plays Liverpool next in the Premier League.

Famine Declared in South Sudan's Unity State

A famine has been declared in parts of South Sudan, the first to be announced in any part of the world in six years.

The government and the United Nations report that some 100,000 people are facing starvation, with a million more on the brink of famine.

A combination of civil war and an economic collapse have been blamed.

There have been warnings of famine in Yemen, Somalia and north-eastern Nigeria, but South Sudan is the first to declare one.

The famine is currently affecting parts of the Unity state in South Sudan, but humanitarian groups have warned that the crisis could spread if urgent help is not received.

Aid agencies, including the UN World Food Programme (WFP) and the children's fund Unicef, said that 4.9 million people - more than 40% of South Sudan's population are in urgent need of food.

When is a famine declared?

Food shortages can lead to large numbers of people lacking nutrition, but only rarely do they amount to famine, according to UN humanitarian criteria.

Long periods of drought and other problems reducing the supply of food do not necessarily result in a famine.

A famine is declared only when certain measures of mortality, malnutrition and hunger are met. They are:

1.  At least 20% of households in an area face extreme food shortages with a limited ability to cope
2.  Acute malnutrition rates exceed 30%
3.  The death rate exceeds two persons per day per 10,000 persons

The declaration of a famine carries no binding obligations on the UN or member states, but serves to focus global attention on the problem.

What is a famine?

The wooden bridge between death and safety

The report on Monday said that an increase in humanitarian assistance was needed in order to prevent the famine from spreading to other vulnerable areas.

"If sustained and adequate assistance is delivered urgently, the hunger situation can be improved in the coming months and further suffering mitigated," the report said.

Head of the WFP in South Sudan, Joyce Luma, said that the famine was "man-made" after three years of conflict across the country stifled crop production and hit farmers and rural livelihoods.

The impact of the conflict, combined with high food prices, economic disruption and low agricultural production has resulted in the area becoming "food insecure", the report added.

South Sudan also experienced a famine in 1998, during the war for independence from Sudan.

Unilorin Suspends Two Lecturers

Two lecturers have been suspended by the authority of the University of Ilorin for insubordination

The lecturers in question are two factional ASUU leaders of the institution. They are the chairman, Dr Kayode Niyi Afolayan, and Dr Bode Olumorin who is the secretary.

The VC, Prof. Abdulganiyu Ambali in an interview with journalist in Ilorin, said that the two lecturers were suspended for gross insubordination. "They are undergoing two queries before" he added.

On the other hand, the affected staffs also spoke to newsmen yesterday in Ilorin. Dr Kayode Niyi Afolayan alleged the institution of impunity and nepotism. "We raise the issue of impunity and nepotism in the system. The wife of the VC, Mrs Toyin Ambali was appointed and promoted in a year among others". He said.

Likewise, Dr Bode Olumorin said they are only whistle blowers. "What we are doing is blowing whistle which is in line with the agenda of the federal government. So, we believe the presidency will come into the matter".

We have to recollect that the authority did not recognize this duo as authentic ASUU executives but they have ASUU at the national level's backing. ASUU recently suspended Unilorin for alleged corruption and other matters.

Xenophobic Attacks: Abike Dabiri-Erewa Seeks AU Intervention

Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Senior  Special Assistant to the President  on Foreign  Affairs and Diaspora has called on the South African government to take decisive and definitive measures to protect Nigerian citizens and other Africans within South African borders. She equally called on the African Union to intervene urgently in the renewed xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other Africans in South Africa.

In a statement issued in Abuja, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa described the attacks as an unnecessary setback. The Nigerian Community in South Africa led by Mr Ikechukwu Anyene confirmed the attacks and looting of Nigerian-owned businesses in Pretoria West on Saturday. Anyene said that the union had reported the incident to the Nigeria mission and South African police. “As we speak, five buildings with Nigerian businesses, including a church have been looted and burned by South Africans”, Anyene said.

Disturbed by this renewed attacks, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa advised Nigerians to be extra cautious as it looks like South African government seems to have no control over these attacks. The SSA, however, urged restraint on the part of Nigerians and warned that further attacks without any reprimand may have dire consequences. Dabiri-Erewa said the attention of the AU was being called to intervene because information had it that there will be another xenophobic attacks against foreigners on Feb. 22 and Feb. 23. “These attacks should not be allowed to continue because it is a big setback,” she said. It will be recalled that Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa had two weeks ago met with South African High Commissioner in Nigeria, Mr Lulu Aaron-Mnguni on the killing of Nigerians in South Africa. Mr Aaron-Mnguni then promised that the South African government was investigating the matter. “We have lost about 116 Nigerians in the last two years. And in 2016 alone, about 20 were killed. This is unacceptable to the people and Government of Nigeria,” Dabiri-Erewa said.

FERMA Abandons Third Mainland Bridge.

…Blames Lack of Funds, Motorists Groan

The Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has come under heavy criticism from residents in Lagos over the abandonment of the repair works in the Third Mainland Bridge and other adjoining roads. The Agency, last month had begun repairs on both carriage ways of the Bridge, scrapping the asphalt on some section of the bridge, but had vacated site for over two weeks, leaving motorists to contend with the current state of the road. Motorists had attributed several accidents which had occurred on the bridge in recent times to the uncoordinated method by which FERMA was carrying out the repair works. But investigations on Friday, however, showed that though the sum of N10billion was voted for FERMA in the 2016 Budget of the Federal Ministry of Works, the contractor engaged for the job was yet to be mobilised.

With the March 31, 2017 date for the end of the implementation of the 2017 budget fast approaching, FERMA had hurriedly moved the contractor to site, however its failure to mobilize them led to the repair works being stalled. Some motorists in the State are however calling on the Minister of Works, Mr. Babatunde Fashola to rise up to the challenge and ensure that the Agency completes the repair works so as to save motorists the nightmare and the incessant accidents caused by the present state of the Bridge. Mr. Babajide Kasali, a motorist who plies the axis on a daily basis, decried the long hours of traffic occasioned by the slow pace of the repair works, saying that it was gradually taking a toll on his health and productivity.

Another motorist, Mrs. Abidemi Otegbola said FERMA’s inability to carry out its duties was due to lack of proper monitoring by the parent ministry, as Mr. Fashola already has his hands full with responsibilities from the Power and Housing ministries.

The eviction sledge hammer landed on the beautiful entertaining actress, Gifty. She is the fourth housemate to have left the BigBrother Naija house after Soma, Miyonse and CoCoIce. The evicted housemate was so emotional that she shed tears while bidding other housemates farewell.

Three housemates were nominated for possible eviction, but it was sad for Gifty that her 25.65% votes was not enough to keep her in the house as ThinTallTony got 32.08% while Marvis pull a whooping 42.27% of the total votes.

There is no gainsaying that viewers and housemates will miss her, especially Bally. Tomorrow is another nomination day. Watch out and vote your favorite contestants afterwards.

Merkel: "Islam is not the source of terrorism".

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said Islam is not the source of "terrorism" and that cooperating with predominantly Muslim states in the fight against it is vital.
Merkel, who has been critical of US President Donald Trump's attempt to impose a temporary travel ban on people from seven Muslim-majority countries, was speaking on Saturday at the Munich Security Conference, with US Vice President Mike Pence in the audience.
"I think, those countries, first and foremost have to give a contribution. Because only in this way we would be able to convince people that it is not Islam that is the source of terrorism. But a falsely understood Islam," she said.
